Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu Movie Review, Silambarasan New Movie 2022

Storyline

Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu marks the third outing of Silambarasan AKA Simbu and Gautham Vasudev Meno after the successful Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya and the mediocre Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada. With Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu, the duo has once again proved that they can create magic every time they come together.

Muthuveeran AKA Muthu is a migrant worker from Tirunelveli who goes to Mumbai to earn a living. A B.Sc graduate, Muthu is struggling in his village on a barren land. His mother enlists the help of his brother and sends him to Mumbai to work at the Parotta stable. Things take a drastic turn when Muthu works at the stable.

They are not only migrant workers but also forced to kill people because of their gangster bosses in Mumbai. One such incident prompts Muthu to take the gun in his hand. He then descends into the depths of the underworld. Then his gradual transformation into one of the dreaded gangsters of Mumbai forms the story.

The story of Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu is written by famous literary writer B Jeyamohan. While watching the movie, you always have a thought in your mind whether VTK is a Gautham Menon movie or a Jeyamohan movie. VTK takes its sweet time to get into the story and Gautham grabs our attention by slowly building Muthu's world. The story culminates in an interval where Muthu takes his revenge and makes everyone jump. And kudos to Simbu for playing it with such finesse.

Gangster Movie

Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu is a gangster origin story like Kamal Haasan's Nayagan, Dhanush's Pudhupettai and several films of the same genre. With a gangster story at its core, there's plenty of scope for action, emotion and betrayal. And the duo explored every aspect of the film with a great performer like Simbu.

While the first half of VTK builds the story, the second half fails. The writing falls flat in many places, often lulling everyone to sleep. Great revelations happen here, but they are inorganic. Take, for example, how he learns that there is a black sheep in his pack. This is a stretch that could have taken the film to a different level. But it appears to be a fact. Likewise, the climax, which is mostly a sequel, feels too rushed.

Transmission Scene

His transformation scene and his composure in his performance made the film attractive. Siddhi Idnani has made a confident debut and looks perfect for the role of a Mumbai girl. The romantic parts between Simbu and Siddhi slowed down the pace a lot.

Another subplot that makes Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu stand out is the one involving Muthu and Sridharan (Neeraj Madhav). The two meet at the Chatrapathi Shivaji railway station on their way down to Mumbai. They start their careers in two different squads. Throughout the film, Muthu and Sridhara's paths cross, but their different decisions dictate their lives. It shows how Muthu's life could have been if he had run away from Mumbai.

AR Rehman

AR Rahman's mesmerizing music and brilliant backdrop dramatically elevates the mood of Vendhu Thanindhadhu Kaadu. Cinematographer Siddhartha Nuni's work captures Mumbai's underworld in a new light.

Vendhu Thanindhadhu Kaadu could be Simbu's Pudhupettai, but it falls short by a few miles. The second part could have been more nuanced.
